PART MAN, PART MONKEY

* Evolution… let’s hear it for evolution. I’ve got some bad news for you....the President says the jury’s out on evolution....that’s right....very, very iffy, evolution....I was kind of counting on it myself....can’t be done any more...now, right now in Kansas, 80 years after the Scopes´ Monkey Trial, they’re rethinking the whole evolution thing as far as it goes with the school....and does Dover, Pennsylvania mean anything to you? It’s happening right here in your backyard, folks....now in New Jersey we believe in evolution....it’s our only hope.....and personally I think that the President believes in evolution too but he can’t say he does because the monkey-vote didn’t put him in the office….no applause, please, it makes me feel like I’m preaching to the converted....now....Inherit the Wind, the old Spencer Tracy movie about the Scopes´ Monkey Trial, they couldn’t make that today, they can’t make the Flintstones today....it’s the whole Neanderthal setting.....it’s too controversial....not to mention the whole Barney-Fred-relationship, you know....so..... We’ve come a long way, baby, and we’re going back.... PART MAN, PART MONKEY

They prosecuted some poor sucker
In these United States
For teaching that man descended from the apes
They could settled that case without a fuss or fight
If they'd seen me chasin' you, sugar
Through the jungle last night
They'd called in that jury and a one two three said
Part man, part monkey, definitely

Well the church bell rings
From the corner steeple
Man in a monkey suit swears he'll do no evil
Offers his lover's prayer but his soul lies
Dark and driftin' and unsatisfied
Well hey bartender, tell me what do you see
Part man, part monkey, looks like to me

Well the night is dark, the moon is full
The flowers of romance exert their pull
We talk a while, my fingers slip
I'm hard and crackling like a whip

Well did God make man in a breath of holy fire
Or did he crawl on up out of the muck and mire
Well the man on the street believes
What the bible tells him so
Well you can ask me, mister, because I know
Tell them soul-suckin' preachers
To come on down and see
Part man, part monkey, baby that's me

(17-05-2005, Filadelfia, PA)

PARTE HOMBRE, PARTE MONO

Si me hubieran visto persiguiéndote
Por la jungla la pasada noche
Habrían llamado aquel jurado y ‘Un, dos, tres’, dirían
“Parte hombre, parte mono, definitivamente”

“Parte hombre, parte mono, me parece a mí”
