ALL THAT HEAVEN WILL ALLOW

* Now, where’s all that sunshine you’re supposed to have out here? This is spring, right? Los Angeles, right? It was nice yesterday you get weather like you had here, you get that back east, everybody goes crazy, everybody’s going crazy out here all the time, I can tell you get that spring weather, you know the girls leave all their winter clothes home, you see ‘em out in the street walking them little dogs, people pulling down the tops of their convertibles, when I get weather like that, I like to go out and take a walk in the park a little bit, see if any of my old friends are still hanging around out there… hey, hey, man, hey!...yeah, how you doing? Alright,  it’s good to see you… what’ve you been up to?...been busy, man, I never see you…I know… you got that going down…oh, let me check ‘em out…we got photographic evidence of the little Big Man, the baby pictures…oh, he looks good, he’s got a little saxophone, he’s got little shades, how old is he? three years old now … he’s almost as big as me, drives his own car, has his own apartment yeah, he looks good…got a lot of little babies running around now…I was telling the folks last night that in about fifteen years there’s gonna be E Street Band Volume Two out, that’s nice… I remember we used to sit on this bench in 1975? oh yeah…you see, there was this big office building down on the corner and like about 4.30 the girls’d all get out of work and they’d all walk down this street and me and Clarence used to come down here and we’d have some baloney-and-cheese sandwiches and a couple of bottles of beer in a little bag and we’d sit here and we used to play cards, till they got out of work… they used to get out right about this time…here they come, here they come, they still come…the one in the red dress, yeah, yeah. I won’t embarrass you…but I remember I was with you the night that you met your wife…we were overseas and Clarence comes in and knocks on my hotel room door, because I was his Dr. Ruth, and he’d come and he’d say “Bruce, I met this girl, she’s fantastic, she’s incredible, man, I’m in love”…but that wasn’t unusual because Clarence was always falling in love back then, that’s good, and then he said “No, no, this is different, you know, you know, this is different, this is the girl that I’m gonna marry”…now, that wasn’t unusual ‘cause Clarence was always meeting the girl that he was gonna marry and then you got married, you know, that was unusual, that’s nice …remember how you felt like the first time, like, she’d come walking into the room, she’s looking so good… when you gotta act like a whole lot nicer than you really are…can’t show your real self yet, try to be real romantic and…cool… back in New Jersey, it feels kind of like this…hey, Ritchie, you ready?...straight out of New Jersey, ladies and gentlemen, come on (the horn players start harmonizing)…yeah, that’s what it’s like…and then you court her, take her out, you do whatever she wants, you go to the movies that she wants to see and then – what time is it?...oh man, I gotta be getting home…I know, we used to stay up till four am, remember?... I go to bed at 11.30 now…yeah, I do, but then I get to watch like “The Honeymooners” for a half-hour and then out go the lights, then I gotta go, I’ll see you later, see you…(horn players are singing “Here she comes walking”)…aah… here she comes now…so good… (23-04-1988, Los Angeles, CA)

ALL THAT HEAVEN WILL ALLOW

I got a dollar in my pocket
There ain't a cloud up above
I got a picture in a locket
That says baby I love you

Well if you didn't look then boys
Then fellas don't go lookin' now
Well here she comes a-walkin'
All that heaven will allow

Say hey there mister bouncer
Now all I wanna do is dance
But I swear I left my wallet
Back home in my workin' pants

C'mon Slim slip me in man
I'll make it up to you somehow
I can't be late I got a date
With all that heaven will allow

Rain and storm and dark skies
Well now they don't mean a thing
If you got a girl that loves you
And who wants to wear your ring

So c'mon mister trouble
We’ll make it through you somehow
We'll fill this house with all the love
All that heaven will allow

Now some may wanna die young man
Young and gloriously
Get it straight now mister
Hey buddy that ain't me

'Cause I got something on my mind
That sets me straight and walkin' proud
And I want all the time
All that heaven will allow

(la sección de vientos empieza a tocar “Here she comes walking”)…aah… aquí viene ahora… perfecta… (23-04-1988, Los Ángeles, CA)

CUANTO EL CIELO ME CONCEDA

Tengo un dólar en mi bolsillo
No hay ni una nube en el cielo
Tengo una foto en un medallón
Que dice, ‘Nena, te quiero’

Bueno, si no mirasteis antes, chicos
Entonces tampoco miréis ahora
Aquí se acerca ella caminando
Cuanto el cielo me conceda

Le digo ‘Oiga, señor gorila’
Todo cuanto quiero es bailar
Pero juro que olvidé mi cartera
En casa en mis pantalones de faena

Vamos, amigo, déjame colar
Te lo pagaré de alguna forma
No me retrases, tengo una cita
Con cuanto el cielo me conceda

Lluvia, tormenta y cielos negros
Ahora no importan lo más mínimo
Si tienes una chica que te ama
Y que quiere llevar tu anillo

Adelante, señor Problemas
Lograremos esquivarte de algún modo
Llenaremos esta casa con cuanto amor
Cuanto el cielo nos conceda

Quizá algunos desean morir jóvenes
Jóvenes y gloriosos
Pero, tío, no te equivoques
Oye, colega, ese no soy yo

Por que tengo algo en mi cabeza
Que me hace caminar recto y orgulloso
Y deseo todo el tiempo
Cuanto el cielo me conceda
