SONG FOR ORPHANS
Well multitude assembled
And they tried to make the noise
Them black blind poet generals
Them black blind poet generals
And restless loud white boys
But time's grew thin
But time's grew thin
And the axis was somehow left incomplete
Where instead of child lions
Where instead of child lions
Found the agein' junkie sheep
How many wasted have I seen
How many wasted have I seen
Signed "Hollywood or bust"
Left to ride them ever
Left to ride them ever
Ghostly Arizona gusts
Cheerleader tramps and kids with big amps
Cheerleader tramps and kids with big amps
Soundin' in the void
High society vamps and ex-heavyweight champs
High society vamps and ex-heavyweight champs
Mistakin' soot for soil
So break me now big Mama
So break me now big Mama
As Old Faithful
breaks the day
Believe me my good Linda
Believe me my good Linda
The aurora will shine your way
The confederacy's in my name now
The confederacy's in my name now
And the hounds are held at bay
But the axis needs a stronger arm
But the axis needs a stronger arm
Do you feel your muscles play
The doorstep blanket weaver
The doorstep blanket weaver
Madonna, she's pushin' bells
From house to house I see her
From house to house I see her
Givin' last kisses and wishin' well
To every gypsy mystic hero
To every gypsy mystic hero
That the kids might find a place
Who've been lost forever mama
Who've been lost forever mama
On their weekends out in space
Well the sons they search for fathers
Well the sons they search for fathers
But the fathers are all gone
And the lost souls search for saviours
And the lost souls search for saviours
But saviours don't last long
Those aimless questless renegade brats
Those aimless questless renegade brats
Who live their lives in songs
They run the length of a candle
They run the length of a candle
In a goodnight whisper they are all gone
So break me now big Mama
As Old Faithful
breaks the day
Believe me my good Linda
Believe me my good Linda
The aurora will shine your way
The confederacy's in my name now
The confederacy's in my name now
The hounds are held at bay
The axis needs a stronger arm
The axis needs a stronger arm
Do you feel your muscles play
Well the missions are filled with hermits
Well the missions are filled with hermits
And they're lookin' for a friend
And the terraces are filled with cat-men
And the terraces are filled with cat-men
Just lookin' for a way in
There's orphans left on silver mountains
There's orphans left on silver mountains
Lost in celestial alleyways
They wait for that old tramp Dog Man Moses
They wait for that old tramp Dog Man Moses
He takes in all the strays
Now don't grow on empty legends
Now don't grow on empty legends
Don’t grow on lonely cradle songs
'Cause Billy the Kid was just a bowery boy
'Cause Billy the Kid was just a bowery boy
Who made a living twirlin' his guns
And the night she's long and lanky
And the night she's long and lanky
And she speaks in a mother tongue
She lullabies the refugees
She lullabies the refugees
With an amplifier's hum
So break me now big Mama
So break me now big Mama
As Old Faithful
breaks the day
Believe me my sweet Linda
Believe me my sweet Linda
The help is on the way
The Confederacy's in my name now
The Confederacy's in my name now
We’ll hold the hounds at bay
The axis needs a stronger arm
The axis needs a stronger arm
Do you feel your muscles play
And the Confederacy's in my name now
And the hounds we'll hold at bay
The axis needs a stronger arm
The axis needs a stronger arm
Do you feel your muscles play
A cuántos fracasados he visto
Que apuntaban a Hollywood o al olvido
Condenados a cabalgar para siempre
Sobre ráfagas fantasmales de Arizona
Animadoras vagabundas y jóvenes con altavoces
Resonando
en el vacío
Vampiresas de la
alta sociedad y ex-campeones de pesos pesados
Confundiendo manchas con sombras
Así que partamos
ahora Gran Madre
Mientras el Viejo
Leal despunta al alba
Créeme mi querida
Linda
La aurora
iluminará el camino
El complot apunta
hacia mí ahora
Los perros me
están acorralando
Pero el eje
necesita un brazo más fuerte
¿Sientes cómo se
tensan tus músculos?
Tramando en su
manto ante el portal
Madonna, está
llamando a la puerta
De casa en casa,
la observo
Repartiendo besos
de despedida y buena suerte
A cada místico
héroe gitano
Al que los chicos
le encuentran un lugar
O que se haya
disipado para siempre
En sus fines de
semana en el espacio
Los hijos buscan a
los padres
Pero todos los
padres han partido
Y las almas
perdidas buscan redentores
Pero de redentores
ya no quedan
Aquellos osados
renegados, sin propósitos ni objetivos
Que viven sus
vidas en canciones
Perduran el lapso
de una vela
Y, en un susurro
de buenas noches, se desvanecen
Así que partamos
ahora Gran Madre
Mientras el Viejo
Leal despunta al alba
Créeme mi querida
Linda
La aurora
iluminará el camino
El complot apunta
hacia mí ahora
Los perros me
están acorralando
Pero el eje
necesita un brazo más fuerte
¿Sientes cómo se
tensan tus músculos?
Las misiones están
llenas de ermitaños
Que buscan a un
amigo
Y las azoteas
están repletas de hombres-gato
Escudriñando cómo
entrar
Hay huérfanos
abandonados en montañas de plata
Perdidos en
callejones celestiales
Esperando aquel
viejo vagabundo ‘Moisés-Hombre-Perro’
Que apresa a todos los descarriados
Y ahora no esperéis
leyendas vacías
No esperéis
solitarias canciones de cuna
Pues ‘Billy el
Niño’ sólo era un ganadero
Que se ganó la
vida volteando sus pistolas
Y la noche es
larga y apremia
Y habla el
lenguaje de las madres
Tarareando nanas a
los refugiados
Con el murmullo de
un amplificador
Así que partamos
ahora Gran Madre
Mientras el Viejo
Leal despunta al alba
Créeme mi querida
Linda
La ayuda está en
camino
El complot apunta
hacia mí ahora
Pero acorralaremos
a esos perros
El eje necesita un
brazo más fuerte
¿Sientes cómo se
tensan tus músculos?
El complot apunta
hacia mí ahora
Pero acorralaremos
a esos perros
directo.
